Building Character, One Step at a Time
More Than a Studio, We Are a Family and a Community Ambassador.
Dancing is a small part of attending a dance class; it’s about creating a safe space for each child. We want Silk to be a second home for our families. A place where children and parents want to spend time together, to feel relaxed and happy and feel part of something special.
Community Focus
Silk is proud to be part of the local Honley community, joining in and arranging local events to give back as much as we possibly can. When people think of Silk we want them to not only think of us as a dance school but as an ambassador of the local community.
Training Excellence
We train dancers to the best of their ability within a strong foundation of technical excellence, allowing them to flourish and open up opportunities for the future. We train them to work hard both physically and mentally, to always believe in themselves and be the best that they can be. We get through the hard times together and celebrate the wins together. We are a family, and so a win for the individual is a win for Silk.

Meet The Founder
Meet Miss Pennie
Silk School Of Dance Founder
Pennie achieved all major exams with the Royal Academy of Dance (R.A.D) and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance (I.S.T.D). She then went on to complete her ballet training at the acclaimed Arts Educational London Schools and Central School of Ballet, London. In addition to a fine career dancing professionally in theatres internationally, Pennie brings her experience teaching young children and understanding them on an emotional level. This means her students are introduced to dance in a warm and caring child-led environment as well as receiving the invaluable technical foundation that puts them in good stead for the future. With a strong classical ballet background Pennie also has a wealth of experience in many styles which allow her to create uniquely designed, exciting curriculum to give her students a wide-ranging exposure to dance.
Miss Tracy
Head of Musical Theatre Department
When I was 8 years old I was taken to see Me and My Girl at the Palace Theatre in Manchester and I fell in love with the theatre. That same year I was given a clarinet for Christmas and I have never looked back! I studied woodwind and vocal studies both at the RNCM completing all the ABRSM exams in clarinet, flute and saxophone finishing off with the DIP ABRSM in teaching. I started out professionally playing in Orchestras for musicals around Manchester. For three years I was the musical director for Oldham council and Manchester Youth Theatre working on musicals such as Annie, Whistle down the Wind and Mary Poppins and conducting the Children in Need choir with Pudsey! (My biggest claim to a celebrity). I then went to work as a musician on the holiday camps in East Anglia, backing the cabaret acts and as vocal coach/director for the in-house musical shows. Having my children sent me down a different career path but watching my daughter grow in confidence while at Silk has given me the bug to do some more teaching and I can’t wait to work with the children in the Musical Theatre class.
Miss Milly
Milly trained at both CAPA College and Bird College. She has since then taken ISTD Ballet and Modern teaching exams and is also certified to teach Acrobatic Arts and Progressing Ballet Technique. After finishing her training, Milly straight away started her teaching career. Her area of expertise is technique training and she always aims to provide individual feedback to dancers to help them reach their potential. Milly now teaches both regular classes and workshops at some incredible dance schools and colleges! She has also taught a sold out class at MOVE IT and runs her own training programme - ALIGN Dance Company.
Miss Sarah
Sarah trained at Merseyside Dance and Drama college gaining her ISTD teaching qualifications in Ballet tap and modern . After 23 years teaching for K School of Dance she was given the opportunity to take over the business and was principal of the school for 12 years. Over her 35 year career Sarah has trained hundreds of children including our very own principal Miss Pennie. She has prepared hundreds of children for dance exams and choreographed multiple productions along the way. We are delighted that Sarah is now teaching at Silk and passing her valuable experience to all of our students.
