Dance World Cup Success!
Silk are going to the Dance World Cup in Dublin in 2026! The Dance World Cup is the greatest all-genre dance competition in the world for children and young adults around the world. Each year over 9,000 dancers from more than 60 countries are selected to attend the prestigious Dance World Cup finals from over 60,000 entrants. Often referred to as the Olympics of Dance, the Dance World Cup is an extraordinary opportunity for young dancers to represent their country and travel to the finals, being held in Dublin in 2026. After having Silk dancers compete through larger more established schools, we entered our own troupes and individual performers this year and are through to the finals! This is a truly wonderful opportunity to meet amazing dancers from around the world and represent England in world class theatres for the experience of a lifetime. Exams
At Silk we offer exams in Ballet, Tap and Modern under the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancers (ISTD) curriculum. Exams are a great way of rewarding hard work and assessing a child’s progress as part of their dance classes. And they should be fun and build confidence, not a daunting prospect. It’s a great opportunity to showcase what they learn in class, supported by friendly and encouraging examiners. Exams give our dancers something to aim towards and gives them confidence they have achieved a certain standard and are ready to take the next steps. They work together with their friends towards the same challenge and feel a great sense of accomplishment when they achieve success together in their exams. Dance exams and tests can be hugely rewarding for your child and can help to develop a range of personal, social, physical and mental well-being and transferable skills.
Troupes
In addition to working on individual dances, Silk have the opportunity to become involved in larger ensembles and troupes. Here our dancers work with exceptional choreographers to put together exciting dances for performances in competitions, shows and events. Dance troupes foster a sense of camaraderie and teamwork among our dancers. Working together towards a common goal encourages mutual support, friendship and a sense of belonging within the Silk community. They learn different styles, technique and choreography to become well-rounded performers. And it’s so much fun!
Competitions & Championships
Silk enter our individual and group dances in a range of competitions and championships around the region. They are great for dancers who want a more challenging, fast-paced learning environment where they can receive recognition for their accomplishments as well as meet new friends from other dance schools. Regular competitions lead to our dancers becoming true performers and are tremendously beneficial for learning to manage and overcome pre-stage jitters and develop good stage presence. These skills stay with young dancers for the rest of their lives, skills which benefit future careers in dance and beyond. Competitions help boost confidence: winning – and even losing – is an important part of increasing confidence and self-esteem, learning to control emotions and think objectively about their performances. And we’re always very supportive of all our competitors, ensuring they have all the warmth and encouragement from teachers and teammates to enjoy the experience.
